WYNN
Wynn is a smaller-than-average wolf, 17 years old at the time of the outbreak.
He is very smart and intuitive, as well as cautious by nature, but he is very loving and caring solely towards the members of his pack.
When the pack first ventured into Wildwood forest, Wynn was 14. He woke up one morning in the forest to find that his older sister (and only known blood relative) Olivia had disappeared. The pack stayed a while and looked for her, as well as contacting the authorities, but she was never found. She was 22.
Since her disappearance, Wynn has been experiencing hallucinations, mainly of her. Sometimes of his parents, who he never met. He tries to keep this at bay with whatever pills and substances that he finds, although he already experimented with drugs in his early adolescence upon seeing Cyrus and Alynna do the same. He only begins spiralling out of control after he starts using it to cope.
He thinks he can keep this a secret, and for the most part he hides it pretty well, but Kell can always tell when he’s suffering and when he’s on something. She tries to intervene where she can, but after an earlier confrontation gone badly, she stays out of his way for the sake of keeping the pack together. She knows that if Wynn ever runs away, he will not make it on his own.
Wynn longs to help out the pack by seeking employment, but Kell doesn’t think he’s ready. Alynna agrees, but in a more overprotective, controlling way. He rebels against them by going with Cyrus to the Markets (a large underground trading center) and selling things he steals from various stalls. A week before the virus breaks out, Wynn is caught stealing from a market stall and is banned for life from ever setting foot inside there again. Cyrus is the only one who knows about this.
While Cyrus specialises in trading trash from dumpster diving, Wynn is particularly good at sneaking (or breaking) into houses and finding valuables to sell. He has a good eye for what will sell for a lot. Cyrus agreed to keep this a secret from the rest of the pack, as they both know they will disapprove.
He spends a lot of time by himself, reading whatever books he manages to snag on the way out of the properties he steals from. He likes to climb the water tower at the edge of the city, which overlooks Wildwood. He stares out there in hopes that one day Olivia will emerge, unscathed.
CYRUS
Cyrus is a hyena, 19 years old, and the leader of the pack.
He is a very calm and calculated person, and holds no resentment for being abandoned by his family as he was able to find a better one where he believes he truly belongs.
Hard times and rough living situations don’t seem to crush his spirit. He puts everyone in the pack before himself and tries to make the decisions that will keep everyone happy and healthy. Wynn is like a brother to him, they’ve been bonded since childhood. He is very close with Alynna too, despite frequent run-ins regarding his leadership style. They are bonded through their shared trauma of being abandoned at such a young age and finding each other when they had no one else. He tries his best to keep her happy by letting her be the one to reinforce his decisions. He knows that she also has great survival instincts, but can tell that she can’t be left to her own devices.
Cyrus has two piercings in his right ear. He is very into punk music and definitely would have attended the furry Warped Tour (bringing a young Wynn along with him). He is responsible for a lot of Wynn’s interests, many of which have branched out into other things on their own.
Despite being raised by a straight-edge Olivia, Cyrus and Alynna fell into frequent drug use in their early adolescence. Cyrus quit cold turkey the day that Olivia disappeared, for the sake of Wynn. Alynna slowly weaned herself off. They were both unaware that their bad habits had already been passed onto Wynn at that point.
When they first meet in the markets, Cyrus quickly becomes close with Parker upon noticing how similar they are. Parker gets him a job at the office he works at in exchange for getting to join the pack, but Cyrus quickly gets fired for stealing supplies (in small quantities). Parker luckily keeps his job and forgives Cyrus quickly. Cyrus never finds another job, but Parker is happy to provide for the pack.
ALYNNA
Alynna is a wolf, and is the same age as Cyrus.
She has been with the pack for as long as she can remember. Her and Cyrus (not related, but seemingly abandoned together) met Olivia when they were both 4 years old. Olivia essentially raised them alongside Wynn, which is how the pack formed.
Alynna has always been very authoritative, wanting to impress and be like Olivia, who seems to be a natural born leader. She tries to exert control over Wynn whenever she can, knowing she doesn’t hold the same power over most of the other pack members. When Olivia disappears, she tries to fill her shoes as she becomes the joint-second eldest member of the pack. This automatically causes tension between her and Wynn.
Alynna has a need to impress her leaders so that she can be deemed good enough to become one of them one day, but her authoritativeness makes Cyrus cautious about placing too much power or too many expectations upon her. He has to be the level-headed one when Olivia goes missing.
She is an artist at heart, with her main ambition being going to art school. Olivia tries to make this happen for her, convincing her to enrol in the same high school as her but when she doesn’t get accepted, it crushes her spirits. Cyrus attempts to cheer her up by getting her into street art and graffiti, which she’ll indulge in every so often. When she doesn’t use art as an outlet, she gets very stressed out, and takes it out on other members of the pack.
KELL
Kell is a rabbit, age 20 at the start. She is very much the caretaker of the pack.
While Cyrus and Parker are very loving people (not so much Alynna), Kell is very affectionate and very in tune with everyone’s emotions. Cyrus tries to be that way, but isn’t great at picking up on social cues, and Parker works too much to be present in that way. Where Cyrus focuses on the physical wellbeing of the pack, Kell makes sure that they all feel loved and connected. She is the glue of the pack. She was very present for Wynn when Olivia went missing, and can tell that he is suffering from residual issues that he won’t talk about. She is this way because she was raised very differently, by a cold and uncaring mother.
Her and Parker are the only members of the pack who work jobs. Kell works part time at a grocery store, for not a lot of money. The job market in the area of the city they live in is particularly saturated. She was lucky to get the job at all, even if she was looking for a full time one.
Despite being very attentive to the other members of the pack, her survival instincts aren’t the greatest. Before she was taken in, the pack had faced months of homelessness, doing whatever they could to survive. Kell’s first experience with that was when her mother died and she found herself out on the streets, where Olivia found her. She was only 16 at the time.
PARKER
Parker is a 20 year old raccoon, and a runaway.
He comes from a community of other raccoons, who he decided to escape from when he was 14, for reasons he has only disclosed to Kell and Cyrus.
He quickly becomes Cyrus’ right hand man when he joins the pack (much to Alynna’s dismay). He only finds and joins them shortly before Olivia’s disappearance, having previously been alone for several years in the city.
When he finds them, the pack is living on the streets of Hollow Point City. He is the reason that the pack is able to move into actual shelter, as he takes them into his small apartment and provides Cyrus with a job. He exchanges his wisdom and his financial help for family and a sense of belonging. Everyone but Alynna quickly grows to adore him.
He is very cheerful and very wise. He is probably the most educated member of the pack as he was actually enrolled in a school in his old community, dropping out when he ran away.
He works in the mailroom of an office, claiming that he wants to work his way up in the company to earn enough to keep the whole pack living comfortably.
He wants to take care of his pack as best as he can, but the money he makes alone is nowhere near enough. Him and Kell make just enough to afford the small apartment they all live in. Cyrus is in charge of scavenging for food and supplies, as he can’t seem to hold down a job.
ROOK
Rook is a deer. She is older than the entire pack, about 25 when she first meets them at the bus terminal. This is roughly the same age that Olivia would be, had she not disappeared 3 years prior.
She, like many others, is stuck at the bus terminal, trying to leave. Except she’s not leaving to escape the virus as she is unaware of it. She lives very minimalistic - without a phone or a computer. Her main source of entertainment being her DVDs, MP3 player, and console games at home.
She is at the terminal as her bus out of the city gets cancelled, as she was trying to go and visit her dad for the first time in years. He had gone radio silent on her years ago when his wife (not Rook’s mom) passed, and she was so hurt by this that she decided to remain silent in return. He reached out months before the outbreak to make amends, and the two had arranged to reunite at her father’s new place in Nebraska.
She has spent most of her adult life alone, having dropped out of college due to lack of funds. She works two jobs to afford her apartment in West Hollow, which is in a much nicer spot than Parker’s (in South Hollow). She has a roommate who barely spends any time at the apartment due to being in a committed relationship.
Rook longs for close connections but is too scared to go looking for them. Falling in with the pack is one of the best things to happen to her, but it scares her as the chances of losing them in this fallen society are very high, higher than she normally has the capacity to be anxious about. She almost immediately forms bonds with Wren and Wynn, with all three of them sharing their “outsider tendencies” as their common thread. For Wynn, this is the first friend he has made outside of the pack.
WREN
Wren is a hyena, age 24 when the pack meets them.
Wren ends up at the bus terminal (at the wrong place at the wrong time) as they return home from college for the summer.
They have most of their belongings on them already, and happen to get blocked in when the military shows up. They hadn’t heard anything about the virus due to being on a bus for 12 hours prior, as it was all unfolding.
Wren is initially very closed off, but opens up when members of the pack attempt to get to know them. She bonds with Wynn over similar interests, and has a similar longing for closeness as Rook does.
Music and movies are their main interests before the outbreak.
CARP
Carp, 16, is a very resourceful possum.
Before the outbreak, he was a pizza delivery boy, barely scraping by as he provides for his large family. He coincidentally lived in the same area as the pack, which they discover and bond over in their camp. The pack finds him severely injured after the shooting at the bus terminal, and they take him in and nurse him back to health. He quickly accepts that the world has come to an end, and it is most likely that his loved ones probably didn’t make it, but he mainly considers himself lucky to be alive after being shot at the terminal. He is the reason the pack are able to escape the city, as he knows a way past the fences that act as the city’s border.
Carp immediately introduces an interesting new dynamic to the group, as he is charismatic and kind of flirty with everyone, which is something the pack has not yet encountered. The outbreak is the first opportunity the pack has had to befriend people outside of their group, as they’ve now been forced to form alliances with strangers (which they had stopped doing after Olivia’s disappearance).
Carp is very willing to help, believing he owes his life to the pack after they rescued him. He would pretty much die for Cyrus, Rook and Wynn. He assumes the role of the people pleaser once Cyrus realises he has to clamp down and be stricter for the sake of keeping the group alive. He, like Alynna, is very artistic, drawing and painting in his spare time - the two bond over this. He is also a stoner.
RUADHÁN
Ruadhán is a dog - he meets and then joins the pack when Alynna finds him, frozen with fear at a shop in the bus terminal. He is only 15 at the time, about to be 16 when the outbreak begins.
Before, he worked at a coffee shop in the slightly richer part of the city, despite not living there. He has a home base that he shares with his father, filled with scraps of metal, unfinished machines and CRTs he fixed up, along with many plastic milk crates filled with vhs tapes and games and cds and poorly-hidden naughty magazines. It’s comfortable for what he has and a nice place to hang out.
He’s passionate about video games, especially ones he played as a kid, since most remaining consoles of his childhood are broken, he takes up a hobby to learn how to repair them. This leads to a growing interest in repairs and tech and homemade machinery. Leading into the apocalypse he has a large range of gadgets that he can use to survive. He’s one of few survivalists who keeps close tabs on the infection in the very early days of it - he’s one of the first to hear about it. But due to his demanding boss and his uncertainty surrounding the severity of the virus, he doesn’t decide to flee until he witnesses the infection firsthand. He packs his many homemade weapons, but can’t board a flight with them, so heads to the bus terminal… slightly too late.
Ru loves to hold onto the past. Or rather, he’s terrified of change. Every night he spends at the campsite, he yearns to be back in his bed at his family home, despite not having lived there in years after his parents split up and his mother moved out of the city. Thinking about his family before they broke apart is a source of comfort for him in these trying times.
To Wynn and most of the pack, Ru comes off as a little weird and off-putting at first, seen as childish for his obsessive interests... But behind the awkwardness he is extremely caring and thoughtful and eventually Wynn regrets thinking poorly of him as they get closer.
RILEY
Riley is a 7 year old cat, a survivor discovered along with many others by the pack at the bus terminal.
He hits it off with Wynn (who discovers in that moment that he is good with kids), and the whole group decides to raise him when they assume his parents were killed in the shooting.
Very little is known about where he is from or where he was going when the shooting happened, and the pack thinks it best to not have him point out where his parents are in the pile of corpses. To Cyrus, taking in Riley is no different than it was raising Wynn and the other younger pack members.
